summary:

“Baavra Mann – a film on Sudhir Mishra & other Indian realities” is a full-length documentary feature (127 minutes) on the life and work of filmmaker Sudhir Mishra and using this prism to examine the declining creative and culture scene in India.

The film is portrait of an artist as well as the documentation of his time. Rather than treat Sudhir Mishra as a demigod, the film uses his imperfect filmography and trenchant self – critical worldview to throw some light on why fulfilling one’s potential in this line of work can be such all order ….but often a fun ride. Amidst the interesting stories around his classic film, especially “Hazaaron Khwaaishein Aisi.”

A host of other interesting voices from this milieu also garnish the narrative – people like Naseeruddin Shah, Saeed Mirza, Kundan Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Jaideep Sahni, Anurag Kashyap , Swanand Kirkire, Shantanu Moitra, Kay Kay Menon, Chitrangda Singh, Shiney, Ahuja and many others.

The film also examines the declining cultural scene in other milieus – the results of conversations with Robin Das, NK Sharma, Vinod Dua, MJ Akbar and others enliven these parts.

The examination of this milieus and the stories behind the films are interspersed with the telling of personal stories….. hopefully resulting in an illuminating and entertaining narrative about a contemporary Indian story and a document of its times.
